Alex Brown brings over 20 years of hands-on experience working with California's threatened and endangered species through both research and consulting roles. As an expert in his field, Alex has performed protocol surveys, site assessments, pre-activity surveys, and has successfully implemented agency-approved mitigation and monitoring measures across a variety of projects including transportation, renewable energy, oil fields, habitat restoration, and construction.
Throughout his career, Alex has maintained compliance with permit conditions from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB). He has also managed mitigation measures for projects subject to CEQA and NEPA analysis. As Lead Biologist on numerous projects, Alex has represented clients and served as the primary point of contact with regulatory agencies, providing crucial permit interpretation and compliance recommendations.
For the past three years, Alex has been primarily assigned to the California High-Speed Rail (CHSR) Construction Package 4 (CP4) as the Project Biologist. In this role, he oversees pre-construction surveys, small mammal trapping, burrow excavation, and construction monitoring to enforce environmental compliance measures. Alex's extensive experience ensures that projects adhere to the highest environmental standards, from initial surveys through to final mitigation and reporting.
Alex holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from California State University, Bakersfield, and has completed numerous certifications and training programs, including the Desert Tortoise Council Annual Surveying, Monitoring, and Handling Techniques Workshop, and various aquatic and terrestrial species workshops. His broad skill set and comprehensive understanding of environmental regulations make him an invaluable asset to any project requiring meticulous environmental oversight.
In addition to his professional work, Alex has volunteered for various research projects, further showcasing his dedication to wildlife conservation and environmental stewardship. His commitment to both his clients and the environment ensures that projects are not only compliant but also contribute positively to the preservation of California’s natural habitats.
